NYU Activism Campaign
March 22, 2010 in Communication, Meet Up
Teamspeak Weekly Meeting 3/21/2010
During the last Teamspeak Meeting we decided that for our next activism campaign we will be setting up a demonstration at the NYU campus. We will setup a table with poster boards highlighting different topics that would of interest to college students. We are for a way to also have a screen with a video demonstrating different technologies that many people aren’t aware of today.
For the posters, I will be taking volunteers to tackle different topics. Please leave a comment to let me know what topic/poster you want to make. Let’s try to use those posters with the folding flaps so that it can stand by itself without any support.
Volunteers so far:
- Diego – Debt
- Doraw – Unemployment
- James O\’Loughlin – Energy/Technology is hindered by profit system.
- Roberto – Energy
Topics:
- Debt – Go into money creation and how their isn’t enough money in circulation to cover the debt + interest.
- Energy – Highlight different technologies that would make our energy crisis a non-issue (geothermal).
- Constant Growth Economy – Highlight how we live in a finite planet that cannot sustain a profit driven, constant growth economy.
- Technological Unemployment - Demonstrate technologies that promise to replace human labor, and how the profit system promotes the use of such machines. Examples of technology would be the “Contourcrafting”, Electric Vehicles (low maintenance = less mechanics) , etc…
- Suggest One…
Please feel free to suggest and modify any of the existing ones. One thing to keep in mind while designing your poster boards, is to draw people into the information at an emotional level. Let’s use the same advertisement techniques used by marketing firms for a good cause.
Here is a video compilation of our last Meeting/Activism.

Wow, Diego. I’m impressed by your skills!! I will be in Golden, CO 3/28 and try to teamspeak from there to the NY chapter. My friend is pretty like-minded so I’m trying to spread the word there too! Will be in touch re: table and poster board. Rock on!

Headlines…
How about: “What if this expensive education were free to all?”
I also like: “Social stratification is real.”

Oh my God. I love that you guys are doing this! This is GREAT! Love your ideas! Will these events be ongoing? What materials would you like the boards to be made of… the foam boards? I love what you said about how there isn’t enough money to cover the debt and interest. Be honest now, I don’t think that there is enough TREES to be able to make the money to cover the debt and interest! LOL

I’m thinking of doing the energy poster but may expand it to a general “technology creates abundance, profit fights it” theme

That’s the deadline

I want to work on the energy thing as well.
red1 said on April 10, 2010
Diego, I do no have anything for energy yet. At the least for the time being, since the video interviews seem to be working, I’m definitely going to set up my camera to get peoples opinions on the mentioned topics and others to give people a chance to interact with us for different reason if the data we provide does not attract them. With that, this may give us a chance to record questions from individuals that are sometimes difficult to answer and of course I hope we can record a post activist meeting. We got into some pretty good convo last time.
